DOMESTIC GROOVE ~ Celeb’s Chosen Seven is my biweekly column in The Beat (Jakarta) mag. Basically it’s an interview via e-mail which focuses on small, intimate, domestic stuff; what Indonesia’s public figures are really into, musically speaking.
For the 17th edition I went upclose-and-personal with Jamie Aditya.
JAMIE ADITYA
Tv Presenter, Actor, Singer, Songwriter
What music are you into at the moment?
“Aint’ No Use of Crying” by Rance Allen—one of the most underrated soul singers out there. What a falsetto, Good God can I get a witness!
What was the first record you bought—any interesting story behind it?
The Story of Star Wars on vinyl. Hey man, it was 1977, who didn’t love Star Wars. Was there a story behind it, why yes, there was… It started with “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away… A great adventure took place…”
What is your all-time favorite album? Why?
Nashville Skyline by Bob Dylan. It makes me feel like Sunday morning and I’m four years old again, still wondering what’s on top of the fridge, and not aware of something called pain.
What was the worst record you ever purchased?
Crushin’ by The Fat Boys. You know, the guys from the Krush Groove movie? Oh, wait, hang on a sec. Come to think of it, I didn’t buy that, my brother nicked it from the shop, along with AC/DC’s If You Want Blood—an album which I still love!
Who do you want to be, other than yourself, next time you reincarnate?
One of my great grand children, so I can still be part of my kids life (I love ‘em too much) and so I can enjoy the residual millions I made for them, hahaha!
What album do you choose to start your weekend?
Al Green’s Call Me.
And song/album you choose to end your weekend?
Curtis Mayfield’s There’s No Place Like America Today.
As an award winning entertainer, musician, and actor who is best known for his work as a presenter for MTV and Discovery Channel, Jamie is moving forward in pursuit his dream. Currently he’s working on his debut album, due to be released some time in the not too distant future.
